THE construction of offices at Intercity bus station has cheered Lusaka residents who have said that the offices will help reduce congestion and thefts at the largest bus terminus in the country.
The residents have said that the offices will be of great benefit to the people.
They have aid that the continued congestion at the terminus was as a result of not having proper offices where passengers buy their tickets.
Mr James Sakala, a resident of Kamwala, sad that the new offices will be an advantage for the people especially those that are not familiar with the place.
Mr. Sakala said that most people not familiar with the bus terminus were often tricked by callboys because there was no order of how things should be done.
He said people need to operate in an orderly manner at the terminus considering that it caters for people going to different and far places.
Mr. Sakala said that the new offices which will also include toilets is an important initiative that is going to benefit a lot of people.
‘’The new offices will promote order in the terminus and reduce incidents of people being tricked and forced to get on buses they do not plan for. Intercity is a big terminus and it is just right that it has proper offices to help its smooth operation and movement of passengers,’’ he said.
And Ms Joyce Kawayo, another Lusaka resident, said that the offices when completed will improve the safety of passengers’ luggage which has been at risk of being stolen due to lack of offices.
Ms. Kawayo said that most people lose their luggage because of the confusion at the terminus where callboys were always grabbing people’s property to take them to their preferred buses.
She said having offices will bring stability and order at the terminus.
