THE Muslim Community has hailed the Zambian people for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves before, during and after the August 11, 2016 general elections. And International Islamic Relief Organisation in partnership with the Makeni Islamic Society Trust through the office of the First Lady Ether Lungu would distribute 5000 hampers of relief food to the needy across the country this year. International Islamic Relief Organisation Southern African Regional Director Sheikh Walid Saadi said the Muslim community was happy with the Zambians on how they conducted themselves during the general elections to elect their new leader for the next five years. And Mr. Sheikh Walid advised Muslims across the country to work with the government of the day as it was duly elected by the majority Zambians. “I am not a politician myself but I look to the government of the day which has been formed by those who won the elections. President Edgar Lungu was elected by the people, so he is our President whether you like it or not as he was elected by the people. So we should all support him (President Edgar Lungu). So I am advising all Muslims across the country to support the Government which was elected by the people in order to unite the country,” Mr. Sheikh Walid said. Islamic Relief Organisation Southern African Regional Director said the objective of his organisation was to build up a middle class in order to boost the economy not only for Muslims but for the entire region. And speaking at the flagship of the program yesterday, International Islamic Relief Organisation Southern African regional project Director Moosa Mkhize disclosed that under the same project 10 boreholes had already been sunk in various parts of the country. Mr Mkhize said the gesture was in line with the Islamic doctrine of extending a helping hand to the needy in society.
