NORTH Western Development Council of Elders have advised newly elected councillors in Solwezi district to always engage stakeholders whenever important decisions are being made.
Organisation chairperson Lucas Chikoti told the Daily Nation in an interview that meaningful development could only be attained when civic leaders engaged stakeholders constantly.
He said the mandate of civic leaders was to deliver development to the people which he said can only be achieved when all stakeholders were brought on board.
“Stakeholder consultation is very important if we are to achieve something at the end of the day, and that is why we are urging our civic leaders to take a leading role in engaging all stakeholders in the district,” he said.
He said previously projects were being carried out without stakeholders knowing and endorsing and hoped that the trend will change.
“So going forward things have to change because we have observed this for a long time, all you could see is something being put up without the knowledge of the people,” he said.
He also said people in the district were highly expecting from their civic leaders hence the need for them (civic) delivering to their expectations.
He said most township roads were in a deplorable state hence the need for the council to take it as a matter of urgency.
He also said the council should improve on management by first servicing areas that need to be given out to the people.
