Zambians warned over Samsung Note 7 smart phone

ZAMBIA Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has notified the general public that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a factory defect as the affected device can overheat and pose a safety risk.

ZICTA public relations officer has since written officially to Samsung Electronics SA (PTY) LTD- Zambia branch requesting them to come up with interventions and indicate to the Authority how best the device would be withdrawn from the Zambian market.

ZICTA expressed concern that some Zambian consumers might have bought the device from other markets where the product had been launched.

ZICTA urged all consumers with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to visit the authorised Samsung Electronic Service Partner outlets in Zambia to ensure safety of the consumers.

Samsung Electronics Corporation has announced a recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in countries where the device has been launched.

The affected devices were sold in the U.S. before September 15, 2016, and were said to be overheating and pose a safety risk.

According to Samsung, “If you own a Galaxy Note7, it is extremely important to stop using your device, power it down and immediately exchange it using our U.S. Note7 Exchange Program.”
