Queen Elizabeth II congratulates Lungu

 

HER Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Queen Elizabeth II has said she looks forward to the continuation of the warm relationship and close ties between Zambia and Britain during President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s term of office, following his inauguration as President of Zambia.

Queen Elizabeth II has wished President Lungu and the people of Zambia a peaceful and prosperous future.

Her Majesty the Queen said this in a congratulatory message to President Lungu, conveyed by British High Commissioner to Zambia Fergus Cochrane-Dyet.

“I send my warm congratulations as you embark upon your second term as President of the Republic of Zambia,” Queen Elizabeth II said.

And French President François Hollande has extolled Zambia for leading the way in democracy, tolerance and freedom of expression in the August 11 general elections and hoped that the country would continue to be an example.

The French President called for continued dialogue with President Lungu on democracy, tolerance and freedom of expression and particularly at the Africa-France Summit scheduled to take place in Bamako, Mali in January, 2017 and President Hollande said he would be pleased if President Lungu participated in the Summit.

President Hollande assured of continued support to President Lungu and that Zambia can count on France as an active and committed partner for the country’s economic and social development.

In a message of congratulations to President Lungu on his re-election as President of Zambia, President Hollande wished the President every success in achieving his goals of Zambia’s economic diversification and infrastructure development in particular, energy and transport sectors.

The French President expressed confidence that France and Zambia would continue to work together for Africa’s stability.

“On the occasion of your re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia, I am pleased to extend to you, on my own behalf and on behalf of the French people, my warmest congratulations and my very best wishes for the continuation of your mission,” President Hollande said.
