North-West targets 385, 000 children for measles vaccination


THE ministry of health in North-Western Province has targeted about 385, 000 for vaccination against Measles and Rubella which is about 47 percent of the total provincial population.

The exercise which started yesterday would run up to September 24 and was targeting children between the ages of nine months to 15 years.

North-Western provincial medical officer Dr Simulyamana Choonga told the Daily Nation that the exercise was going on well and that all the 170 health institutions have been opened as vaccination points to enable reach out to many.

He also said all primary schools have opened up vaccination centres.

“So far, so good. The response is extremely well,” he said.

He appealed to parents in the province to take keen interest in the exercise by taking their children for vaccination.

And a check at some selected health institutions found long queues of people being attended to by health personnel.
