8 UPND cadres sent to High Court for aggravated robbery

UPND Copperbelt Chairman Elisha Matambo and seven others have been committed to the High Court for trial on two counts of aggravated robbery.

Matambo and seven others who include UPND losing parliamentary candidate for Chimwemwe constituency Ronald Manenga allegedly attacked and assaulted two electoral officers and robbed them of various property amounting to K11, 000.

Matambo, Abel Musukwa, Stuart Kapumba , Linos Mwila, Cable Matumbo, Teddy Kapanda, Warren Chinyama and Ronald Manenga are alleged to have robbed Misheck Chilubi of one ballot box, the property of Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on August 14.

In the first count, it is alleged that the eight on August 14, 2016 jointly and whilst acting to together with others unknown been armed with steel bars, did steal 1 laptop, 1 Galaxy Samsung cell phone, motor vehicle keys for ABT 8877.

In count two, it is alleged that the eight stole, electoral documents, K 700 cash and an ID all valued at K11, 571.

When the matter came up for mention yesterday, the State informed the court that it had received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecution to commit the eight to the High Court for trial.
