UNITED Progressive Party (UPP) has strongly called for self-sacrifice among newly appointed government leaders, adding that ‘Zambia needs leaders who would be givers and not getters in government’.
In a statement, UPP president Saviour Chishimba urged the government leaders to expend the same nationalistic enthusiasm which he said was exhibited during the struggle on the building of a new Zambia of love and unity.
Dr Chishimba stressed the need for self-sacrifice among all government leaders and that they should be more of givers than receivers.
He warned that all the preliminary policy promulgations that President Lungu made would remain a mere rhetoric if the next Cabinet did not embrace the spirit of giving.
Dr Chishimba disclosed that his humble prayer was for the government to be legacy-oriented rather than being plunderers at the expense of citizens.
“The culture of turning government into cash cows must be firmly rooted out of government. Government leaders should expend the same nationalistic enthusiasm which was exhibited during the struggle on the building of a new nation of love and unity.
“There is need for self-sacrifice among all government leaders. They should be more of givers than receivers. All the preliminary policy promulgations that President Lungu made shall remain mere rhetoric if the next cabinet will have the same ‘getters rather than givers’ attitude,” he warned.
