IMF pledges to support Zambia

 

THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) has assured President Edgar Lungu of the fund’s continued support to Zambia through policy advice, technical assistance and financial support.

In a congratulatory message to President Lungu on his re-election as sixth republican President, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said her organization stood ready to continue supporting Zambia in every way possible through policy advice, technical assistance and financial support, if needed.

Ms Lagarde said that President Lungu was beginning his new term at a time when Zambia was facing severe economic challenges such as adverse effects of lower copper prices and electricity shortages.

“IMF stands ready to continue supporting Zambia in every way possible through policy advice, technical assistance and financial support, if needed.

‘‘President Lungu is beginning his new term at a time when Zambia is facing severe economic challenges, including adverse effects of lower copper prices and electricity shortages,” she said.

The IMF  chief wished President Lungu every success as he embarked to  improve the living standards of the Zambian people.

‘’On behalf of the International Monetary Fund, I congratulate you on your re-election to the office of the President of the Republic of Zambia,’’ Ms Lagarde said.
