Tuesday declared public holiday

GOVERNMENT has declared Tuesday, the day President Edgar Lungu will be inaugurated for his five year mandate to govern the country a public holiday.

Secretary to Cabinet Roland Msiska said in a statement yesterday that in view of the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect and the Vice-President-elect which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 13th September, 2016, Government had declared Tuesday a public holiday while Monday had been declared a half day.

Dr Msiska said institutions and businesses providing essential and entertainment services were expected to make adequate arrangements to ensure that the provision of such services were not disrupted on both days.

Dr Msiska said members of the public outside Lusaka who wished to attend the inauguration ceremony at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka were encouraged to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

He however said members of the public who were unable to travel to Lusaka could follow the proceedings on National Television which he said would be transmitted live from 08:00 hours on Tuesday.

“The Government is calling upon the general public to celebrate the inauguration of President Lungu in a responsible and peaceful manner.
