THE decision by the Constitutional Court to dismiss the petition against the election of President Edgar Lungu by opposition UPND is welcome and Zambians should now focus on development, says FDD provincial chairperson Venus Kalala.
Mr Kalala said people patiently waited for the ruling from the Constitutional Court which it delivered according to its mandate.
He said his party would work closely with the ruling party to foster development in Zambia.
“We are happy that the 14 days of the presidential petition has come to an end. All what is needed now is to focus on development,” he said.
He also urged every Zambian to remain peaceful and avoid hate speech.
He further urged President-elect Lungu to deliver development to all parts of Zambia, adding that he was no longer a party president but a President for all Zambians.
“We are all aware that not all regions in Zambia gave the President the votes that he deserved, but our appeal is that he should embrace every region for the sake of development,” he said.
Meanwhile, North Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Josephine Makondu said the decision by the Constitutional Court was going to have a positive effect on the business sector.
Ms Makondu noted that investors did not want to invest in the country which had uncertainties after the general elections.
“It’s common trend among the investors, they don’t invest during such a period. So we are excited about the Constitutional Court decision,” she said.
