A 50-YEAR-OLD MAN denied in a Lusaka local court calling his wife as a prostitute but admitted telling her that she looked like a whore because of her tendency to wearing tight jeans and mini-skirts.
Kelvin Mulenga, a businessman of John Laing compound, was testifying in a case in which his wife, Alice Musenge, 42, sued him for reconciliation.
The two got married in 1988 and have seven children.
Musenge told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Abbishine Michelo at Kanyama Local Court that all was well until 2009 when Mulenga acquired a girlfriend.
She explained that in 2014 when she went to the village, she was informed that Mulenga was caught red handed making love with a married woman and was badly beaten.
She immediately came back and found Mulenga in hospital where he stayed for two weeks but it took him seven months to recover fully.
“Whenever Mulenga is drunk, he says that I am a prostitute and a thief but I remind him that he is the one who was caught red handed having sex with a married woman,” said Musenge.
In defence, Mulenga said that he made a mistake to allow his wife to be working in their bottle store because her tribal cousins fondled her breasts.
He explained that the practice became worse when the other day her tribal cousin by the name of Mwanza fondled Musenge’s tummy when she was pregnant.
But Mulenga denied calling his wife a prostitute but only said that she looked like a whore because she dressed like a prostitute due to her love for tight jeans trousers and mini-skirts.
Mulenga further told the court that his wife had a friend who frequented their home and sometimes she even entered their matrimonial bedroom.
Magistrate Mumba said that the man was the head of the house and reconciled the couple. He advised them to live in harmony as husband and wife.
