16 teams vie for Heroes 7s rugby title

SIXTEEN teams will compete for glory in today’s seventh edition of the Heroes Sevens rugby tournament hosted by Green Eagles Rugby Club in Kabwe.

In-form Nkwazi are set to defend the title and grab the K10, 000 top prize money at stake in what is expected to be a thrilling tournament.

The “high flying’’ Nkwazi proved too strong for favourites Green
Eagles to win the 2015 tournament when they mauled them 14-0. Green Eagles vice chairman Evans Ingwe said in an interview yesterday that all was set for the tournament and 16 teams had confirmed participation.

He said Green Eagles was in top gear and were ready to grab the title from Nkwazi.

“Both our men and women teams are in impressive form. We are expecting tough competition from all the competitors, but the players are determined for
victory,” Ingwe said.

‘‘The women’s category which has four teams will see the champions get K3, 500 and runners-up K1, 500. The woman of the match will pocket K500. The most disciplined team will be awarded K3, 000,” he said.
