Maputo fair cheers  Zambian envoy 


ZAMBIA’S High commissioner to Mozambique Paul Lumbi says it is time that Zambia and Mozambique strengthened their economic ties to improve the lives of the people of the two countries.

Speaking when a Zambian delegation from the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry paid a courtesy call on him, Mr Lumbi said that Zambia and Mozambique had a lot of resources that could enhance the economies of both countries.

He said that it was time that the two countries strengthened their economic ties to improve the lives of the people of the two countries

He expressed happiness to see Zambian companies participating and exhibiting their products at the Maputo International Fair.

And Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry director (domestic trade) John Mulongoti said that Zambia realised the importance of the Mozambican market.

Mr. Mulongoti said Government was committed to enhance trade flows between Zambia and Mozambique.

Meanwhile, ZDA director (export development) Jonathan Simwawa stressed the importance of collaborating with the High Commission in promoting trade between the two countries.

In addition, the Zambian delegation also had a meeting with the Mozambique Institute of Export Promotion (IPEX).

According to Mr Simwawa, the meeting resolved that the current Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ZDA and IPEX should be reviewed to align it to the current trade dynamics and that ZDA would undertake to initiate the draft and submit it to IPEX.

He stressed during the meeting with IPEX that it was important to have a trade mission in Tete which he said was close to the Eastern Province of Zambia.

IPEX expressed gratitude to Zambia for participating and exhibiting at this year’s FACIM after many years of being absent.

The ZDA is leading a delegation of eight Zambian companies from various sectors in showcasing Zambian products at the Maputo International Trade Fair.

Mr Simwawa said the Trade Fair, that started on August 29 would end on September 4, was being held under the theme “Expanding the horizon of your business by optimising synergies.”

The Zambian companies exhibiting at the Trade Fair include Californian Beverages, Zambia Sugar, Mount Meru Millers, Musa Biscuits, Seba Foods, Gramiraji Investments, Milanie Cosmetics and Zayaan Investments.
