Chipolopolo ready

A FULL Chipolopolo squad yesterday trained at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in readiness for Sunday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.

Both countries have been kicked out of the tournament and the fixture is a mere formality.

Coach George Lwandamina had the opportunity to assess skipper Rainford Kalaba, defenders Stopilla Sunzu, Emmanuel Mbola and midfielder Nathan Sinkala during training.

Team manager Stanley Kaseko said the players were all responding well to training and the technical bench was happy that all the professionals had joined camp.

“We now have a full squad. All the professionals arrived yesterday and have reported for training today,” Kaseko said.

Meanwhile, Kenya head coach Stanley Okumbi said the goalless draw against Uganda in an international friendly played on Tuesday will not affect the teams’s performance on Sunday.

Okumbi said he was using the match to assess the players’ readiness and was confident they will beat Zambia.

“The goalless draw in Uganda will not have a negative effect in Sunday’s encounter. The boys were conscious to avoid injuries but did play well despite not scoring,” he said.

He said his lads will not underestimate the Chipolopolo but will aim for a win.

“Zambia is a strong side, but our target is a win. They won 2-1 in our backyard; it will not be the same this time,” he said.
