POWER Dynamos put up a strong fight to beat tricky Forest Rangers 2-1 in a Super Division Week 24 double header at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola yesterday.
Kelvin Kampamba was Power Dynamos hero, netting a brace to push the third placed Kitwe outfit to 46 points, four behind Nkana and nine from leaders Zanaco.
Forest rangers are on 10 position with 28 points.
Forest Rangers started the game on a high note, causing trouble in Power Dynamos defence . Kobe Chipeta put Forest Rangers in the lead in the 16th minute to the disappointment of goal keeper Allan Chibwe.
Five minute after, Chipeta almost made it 2-0 for his side when his close range shot went wide the net. Power Dynamos regained possession and dominated the midfield. Kampamba equalized in the 24th minute through a brilliant free kick which rested in the left corner of the net.
The Kitwe giants continued to put pressure on Forest Rangers. Hard working Kampamba came close to increasing the tally in the 33rd minute with his bicycle kick outside the box, hitting the wood work. In second half, Power Dynamos enjoyed a fair share of possession with Kampamba scoring the winning goal with a long range shot in the 74th minute.
Meanwhile, Zesco United were held to a goalless draw by visiting Green Eagles in a tightly contested match at the same sradium.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League semi-finalists wasted chances on target which cost them the three points. Idriss Mbombo, Clatous Chama, Mwape Mwelwa and Jonh Chin’ngandu failed to convert their chances.
Zesco United now has 37 points on fifth place but have six games in hand while relegation-bound Green Eagles have 26 points. Coach George Lwandamina said Zesco United will work on the mistakes noted to ensure they win all the games in hand.
