PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu should continue working with MMD because the former ruling party worked and campaigned for him tirelessly in the just-ended general elections, Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has said.
Speaking when MMD president Felix Mutati paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, Paramount Chief Mpezeni said President Edgar Lungu should not end the relationship.
The traditional leader said the alliance between the PF and the MMD should be kept alive and should not only be a relationship to win elections but to strengthen democracy.
“I have not yet met with President Lungu after the 11 August election so that I congratulate him. President Lungu should not throw you or abandon his alliance partners because so far you have worked hard to have the ruling party continue in Government. The MMD contributed significantly to the victory of the PF and President Lungu and we want you to continue working together,” the Paramount Chief said.
The traditional leader dispelled assertions that the people of Northern, Luapula, Muchinga and Eastern provinces were promoting regionalism because of the votes President Lungu amassed from the four regions.
The traditional leader observed that there were certain regions in the country that had completely rejected the PF and President Lungu because the opposition there was more popular than the ruling party.
And Mr Mutati called on traditional leaders in the country to take up an active role in ending political violence.
