Let’s sustain peace for investment-ZDA

THE Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has called on Zambians to sustain the reputation of the country of being a haven of peace for over 50 years and its huge potential to attract investment.

ZDA acting director general, Mukula Makasa, said that Zambians needed to be conscious of their actions as they had the potential to negatively impact on the conducive business environment.

This is contained in a statement issued by ZDA manager for communications Margaret Chimanse who said that political violence could disrupt the confidence investors had in the Zambian economy.

Mr Makasa observed that political stability and the friendliness of the people of Zambia were some of the factors contributing to increased investment and investor confidence in the country.

“Further, Zambia is centrally and strategically located with eight neighbouring countries which provide a vast market for Zambian products,” said Mr. Mukula.

He added that the robust and evolving infrastructure such as road network were key factors which make Zambia a number one investment destination for investors.

Mr Makasa stated that there were vast investment and business opportunities in the energy, tourism, agriculture, agro-processing and manufacturing sectors for both local and foreign investors.

He said that Government through the agency provided fiscal and non-fiscal incentives for investments in the rural areas, Multi-facility Economic Zones and Industrial Parks.

He urged the business community to visit the ZDA for various business development services such as capacity building, market and financial linkages.

Mr Mukula noted that ZDA facilitates a special fund called the Zambia Export Development Fund (ZEDF) meant for businesses that want to explore the export market.

He added that starting a business in Zambia has been simplified and can be done within 48 hours.
