Kandemba residents demand speed humps

RESIDENTS of Kandemba area in Solwezi have condemned the behaviour of some motorists in the area who are in the habit of over-speeding along the Solwezi-Mutanda road, thereby causing deaths of innocent pedestrians.

The residents told the Daily Nation that irresponsible motorists in the area drive without regard to pedestrians in the area.

They said that so many lives have been lost due to lack of speed humps between Kyawama area and APG Milling plant due to over-speeding by motorists.

Last week, a 15-year-old boy was hit by a speeding vehicle on the same busy road.

Gladys Mukwemba, an eye-witness, said the boy was hit as he was trying to cross to the other side of the road.

Ms Mukwemba said the owner of the vehicle rushed the boy to Solwezi General Hospital where he is currently admitted.

The residents have appealed to the local authority to put up speed humps on the road.

But efforts to get a comment from Solwezi Municipal Council public relations officer Thandiwe Tembo proved futile.
