U-17 lose in Sudan

ZAMBIA was yesterday booted out of the 2017 Madagascar Africa Junior Championship qualifying race after losing 1-0 to Sudan at Ebo El Obeid Stadium in Khartoum in the second round, final leg.

The Under-17 boys needed at least a 1-0 victory to qualify to the third round but luck was not on their side. Sudan, who held Zambia to a goalless draw in the first leg at Nkoloma Stadium a fortnight ago, made sure the junior Chipolopolo did not carry the day.

Zambia conceded in the 15th minute when Mazin Mohmadian struck home to give Sudan the much needed victory.

The Junior Chipolopolo gained possession of the game before the break but failed to convert the chances.

In second half, Zambia maintained possession but Martin Njobu and Francisco Mwepu produced blunt shots at.

The Zambian team included Prince Mumba, Derrick Sichangwe and Philip Malunga.

Defenders: Andrew Mulongwe, Jonathan Kapelembe, Hilary Mwiinga, Mwape Chewe, Benson Kolala, Zacks Katongo  and Abel Kanyamuna.

Midfielders: Harry Milanzi Jr, Niza Simutenda, Prince Mumba, Davies Silungwe, Paul Mwachisemu and Chanda  Mukuka.

Strikers are Davies Sabbuni, Martin Njovu, Joseph Phiri and Francisco Mwepu.
