A WOMAN narrated before a Local court in Lusaka that her husband is so promiscuous that he proposes love to neighbours.
Biyanta Manda, 36, of Matero compound, was testifying in a case in which her husband, Ronald Chandra, 40, sued her for divorce.
The two got married in 2002 and have five children.
Chandra told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrate Miyanda Banda at Matero Local Court that problems started in 2005 when Manda stopped respecting him.
He explained that at one time when he went to drink with his friends Manda locked him outside the house and he spent a night at a neighbour’s house.
Chandra said that when he left Manda in Ndola and came to work in Lusaka he was sending school fees for children but he was shocked to find that they had not been going to school for a year.
“We have sat several times but Banda never changes and she started using death threats. When I gave her money in July she went to the village leaving me with children. There is no love making but we sleep on the same bed,” said Chandra.
In defence, Manda said that all was well until 2006 when Chandra became so promiscuous that he started proposing love to neighbours.
Manda further told the court that Chandra has a girlfriend in Ndola in the market and that he would be found roasting a chicken and drinking beer while she was starving with children.
Manda said that of late Chandra only came home to change his clothes.
Magistrate Newa granted the couple divorce, ordering Chandra to compensate Manda K12, 000 with initial payment of K1,000 followed by monthly instalments of K300 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K1,000 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
