Lungu can deliver – CCJP

THE Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) says it is positive that President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front government will deliver development in  all parts of Zambia regardless of the rejection in some provinces.

CCJP coordinator John Kalusa told the Daily Nation that with the official declaration of President Lungu as republican president, he was confident that development in North Western Province would accelerate.

He said it was the wish and duty of every government to take development to all parts of the country regardless whether it was voted for or not.

He said there was need to understand that democracy was about choices and therefore punishing any province for not rallying behind the ruling party would be unfortunate.

“Now that elections have come to an end, as an organisation we are very confident that the PF government under the able leadership of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will now start focusing on fulfilling its campaign promises by taking development to all parts of the country, including those areas which did not give him support,” he said.

Mr Kalusa said President Lungu and the PF should realise that democracy was made real by having a mixture of different political parties in Parliament.

He said having strong opposition in Parliament provided for checks and balances which resulted into the actualisation of development.

“We cannot run away from criticism, that is what builds us all especially in a democratic dispensation like Zambia; as long as it is positive criticism,” he said.

He also said North Western Province, having produced 13 opposition Members of Parliament, would add value to the democracy of the country.
