EUPHORIA gripped Kitwe yesterday immediately after Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Commissioner Esau Chulu declared Patriotic Front (PF) Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu as duly elected republican President in the August 11 elections.
The Kitwe residents, who first went to celebrate President Lungu’s victory at the District Commissioner (DC) Chanda Kabwe’s office, later went round the city centre denouncing opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, while giving solidarity to President Lungu.
Just after President Lungu was declared the winner, Mr Kabwe led some youths in celebrations, chanting pro-PF slogans and singing the famous “Dununa Reverse’ song.
Groups of Kitwe residents and PF cadres trooped into the town centre to celebrate President Lungu’s victory, while marketeers and vendors also joined in the celebrations.
One marketeer Cynthia Mubanga said President Lungu’s victory was God’s response to the Zambians who had been praying to Him to give them a God-fearing President.
“Yes, we are happy with President Lungu’s victory because he is a humble, mature and God fearing leader and has respect for every individual regardless of their status in society.
“He is not like other arrogant, sarcastic, selfish and greedy politicians who have no respect for human beings. We are actually grateful to God for giving us President Lungu,” said Ms Mubanga
