Accept defeat, HH urged

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader should just concede defeat and save the nation from unnecessary chaos because the results that have pit him second are credible and the will of the people has prevailed, the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) has charged.

ZRP president Wright Musoma told the Daily Nation that desperation and attempts to attract the attention of the international community would not help Mr. Hichilema because no vote was stolen from him.

Mr. Musoma said Mr. Hichilema would have himself to blame should violence erupt because of his careless and unfounded claims that he had won and that the ECZ and the ruling PF had colluded to steal votes from him.

He said Zambians were not ready to go to war just to satisfy Mr. Hichilema’s ego because they were peace-loving people who believed in obeying the law of the land and would, therefore, not engage in illegalities.

He said time for the opposition to swallow their pride and concede defeat was now as the people of Zambian had rejected them because they had nothing to offer, adding that the ruling PF had done a lot for the country which had facilitated their bouncing back.

“Mr. Hichilema should just concede defeat and stop the blame game. The route he wants to take will plunge this country into chaos but we are not ready for this. The people of Zambian have spoken and their decision should be respected by all including Mr. Hichilema himself. If this country is plunged into chaos because of his claims, he will have no one to blame but himself as he is being irresponsible.

“We are not ready for bloodshed in this country and what he is doing does not befit a person who wants to rule this country. It is baseless for him to start claiming victory when he has lost,” Mr. Musoma said.

He said there was no need for any politician to take this election personal because an election only had one winner, adding that Mr. Hichilema should stomach the state of affairs as it was not the first time he was losing.

“He is not the first person to lose this election and actually this is not the first time he is losing and so, why can’t he just behave? Why is he behaving that way? He is being illogical,” Mr. Musoma said.
