‘’My victory has not come as a surprise, because I really worked hard for it,’’ newly elected Lusaka Central parliamentarian has said.
Mrs Mwanakatwe said this shortly after being declared winner of the Lusaka Central constituency Member of Parliament in the early hours of yesterday at the Lusaka Civic Center after polling 29,730 defeating her closest rival of the UPND, Charlotte Scot who polled 17, 094.
Mrs Mwanakatwe who is the former Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry told journalists that the confidence that President Edgar Lungu had in her during her campaigns had made her win.
She further said it was also through the hard work of her strong campaign team which led her to the victory as an MP.
Mrs Mwanakatwe added that during her campaigns she made a lot of promises to the Zambian people and now it was time for her to work extra hard to fulfill her promises.
She promised not to disappoint the people who had voted her.
Mrs Mwanakatwe thanked her supporters and family for their support and confidence in her and extended her congratulatory messages to all the PF candidates who won in the race.
Mrs Mwanakatwe, who was competing with three other contenders from Rainbow, FDD and an Independent, has made history of becoming the only female
candidate to have won the
Lusaka Central seat.
Others to have won the seat were Dipak Patel of the MMD Party and former Republican Vice President Guy Scot who is now a member of the opposition UPND.
