ATHLETICS national team Coach Douglas Kalembo says 200 and 400 meters female specialist Kabange Mupopo has remained focused ahead of Saturday’s Olympic Games starting race in Rio.
Kalembo said Mupopo had continued to exhibit a positive attitude which was vital ahead of a competitive race.
He said her fitness level was impressive and now the focal point was on the mental preparedness.
“Mupopo is focusing well ahead of the starting race on Saturday. She will kick-off with the 200 meters and targeting to reach the semi-finals. I am working on are psychological preparedness which was vital when handling pressure at this competitive tournament,” he said.
He was confident that Mupopo would put up a surprise race at the Olympics which would earn her world recognition.
“I have always said it, Mupopo is a determined athlete and always gives Zambia the hope of a medal. She has the potential to reach the semis,” he said.
And 100 metres runner Gerald Phiri promised to storm the finals despite facing competition from World fastest runner Usain Bolt and United States Justin Gatlin.
“My target is to reach the finals and the work towards making the medal bracket. I face a tough contest but will still strive to do my best,” he said.
