OPPOSITION political parties are reportedly planning to hire about 60 youths from Lusaka to Shiwang’andu in order to cause havoc and disrupt peace in the area.
Shiwang’andu Constituency PF aspiring candidate Stephen Kampyongo said that the Patriotic Front (PF) in the district had unearthed a plot by some named opposition political parties which were planning to disrupt peace in the district.
Mr. Kampyongo who is PF national youth chairperson said the named opposition political parties were planning to ferry about 60 youths into Shiwang’andu who would be made to masquerade as PF members to destabilize the district so that the ruling party could be viewed as violent when in fact not.
He has warned that the party in the district was fully aware of the schemes by the opposition political parties to destabilize the district and cause fear and panic in the people.
Mr. Kampyongo appealed to all political parties participating in the general elections next week to engage themselves in peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 11 general elections.
Mr. Kampyongo told ZANIS in Chinsali today that elections should not divide the Zambians because elections come and go but people would have to remain and continue with their normal lives.
He explained that it was important for all political parties to engage in peaceful campaigns before, during and after the elections.
He warned that people planning to destabilize peace in the country would be dealt with accordingly, saying Zambia had been holding peaceful elections and that it was possible that the country could still have peaceful, free and fair elections.
Mr Kampyongo advised political parties to tame their cadres and use civil language during their campaigns.
Mr. Kampyongo appealed to the Zambians to heed to the appeals of President Edgar Lungu for peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 11 general elections.
