PF, UPND cadres clash in Ndola

CADRES from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) clashed on Wednesday morning in Lubuto township in Ndola.

The cadres threw stones at each other and the confusion was only quenched when police intervened.

UPND aspiring candidate for Kabushi constituency Enerst Lufunda, who witnessed the clashes, claimed in an interview that his cadres were provoked by PF cadres led by its aspiring candidate for the same constituency Bowman Lusambo.

He accused Mr Lusambo and his group of harassment.

Mr.Lufunda said UPND cadres were at Lubuto grounds preparing the grounds for a scheduled rally expected to be addressed by the party’s presidential running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba when they were attacked.

He accused the ruling party cadres of throwing stones first at his camp before they retreated.

Efforts to get Mr Mr.Lusambo’s comment failed as his phone was switched off.

But PF secretary Benjamin Chitondo expressed ignorance on the incident, stating that he was attending a funeral.

He however stated that the party has intensified campaigns in all parts of Ndola through door to door strategy.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga, when contacted, said she was in a meeting.
