Upgrading of Chilenje clinic into hospital cheers residents

THE upgrading of Chilenje clinic to a first-level hospital has cheered residents in the area who commended  Government for the development.

The residents said that the new hospital would provide quality health care not only to Chilenje residents but even to people of the surrounding townships. Faith Mudemba, a resident of the area, said that the upgrading of the clinic to a first-level hospital was an excellent initiative as it would enable the facility to cater for a lot of people. Ms. Mudemba said that with the growing population in the area, the new hospital would improve health services because it would be modernized and big enough to accommodate a lot of people. She said patients would also have breathing space when  admitted at the centre because it was bigger. ‘’We are happy and grateful as residents of Chilenje that our old clinic is now a first-level hospital with modern equipment and more health personnel to attend to the people, unlike the old clinic that was under-staffed and usually had long queues of people waiting to be attended to because there were not enough personnel,’’ she said. Ms. Mudemba said every human being had the right to access quality health care at all times and improved health facilities was one way of achieving the ideal. And Robert Zimba, a resident of the same area, urged people to ensure that they looked after the hospital so that it was not vandalized. Mr. Zimba said that the hospital was meant for the people and as such it was their responsibility to look after it. “As residents it is our duty to ensure that we look after the hospital that is being constructed for us and we are the ones to benefit from it,’’ he said.

Mr. Zimba urged health personnel to be assigned to the new facility to ensure that they carried out their duties effectively so as to avoid tarnishing the image of the Ministry of Health.
