ZAMBIA has vast potential for economic development and it is the safest place to invest in because the country has always been politically stable, President Edgar Lungu has said.
President Lungu has implored investors who had plans to invest in the country not be discouraged but should continue with their plans because Zambia was politically stable.
President Lungu was speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the Kabwe shopping mall in Kabwe yesterday.
The mall which would be built near Mulungushi Textile would be constructed at a total cost of US$20 million and is expected to be completed in June 2017.
The Head of State said the construction of the mall was testimony of the Patriotic Front’s (PF) commitment to developing every part of Zambia.
He noted that the development had come at a right time especially that Kabwe was facing challenges following the closure of the mines.
“What we have witnessed is a rebirth of Kabwe because the district has been sleeping for the last 25 years following the closure of the mines. There are more other similar projects coming up in other districts and this is why Zambians should give PF another five years to be in office. Those that are saying we are losing it should be ashamed because we are still doing ‘sontapo’,” he said.
President Lungu also assured Zambians that no part of the country would remain undeveloped as developmental projectes were being implemented in every part of the country.
He said Government under his administration would continue to strengthen the Public – Private Partnership to enhance development in the country.
“Development is a collective effort and it cannot be done by one party. We need partners and the people of Zambia to work with and collectively we can go far,” he said.
And the contractor, Hellion Properties and Development project coordinator Victor Chimuka said the shopping mall would create 1200 jobs both during construction and after completion.
Mr. Chimuka said the mall would have world class shops.
“This is a great opportunity for the people of Kabwe residents because jobs will be created. The Shopping mall will have beautiful world class shops,” he said.
And Central Province minister Davis Chisopa said the construction of the shopping mall was the biggest achievement in Kabwe.
He said the mall would be the first-ever shopping mall in the district and urging residents to safeguard the facility once completed.
