HAKAINDE Hichilema yesterday went ballistic and verbally abused Zambia Police officers who were manning and screening leaders at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) presidential candidates meeting at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC).
And UPND cadres yesterday caused confusion at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) presidential candidates meeting when they attempted to force their way inside a high profile meeting which was also attended by President Edgar Lungu, United Nations Country coordinator Janet Morgan and Commonwealth Observer representative Professor Ibrahim Gambrai.
Mr Hichilema verbally abused police officers who were screening people who had gone to attend the ECZ presidential candidate’s meeting charging that they were not thinking for wanting to screen him.
Mr. Hichilema exchanged invectives with police officers who blocked UPND supporters from forcing their way into the conference hall.
Mr Hichilema arrived at the meeting with a hoard of cadres despite the commission only inviting presidential candidates and secretary generals to attend the gathering.
The UPND leader arrived at the screening point refusing to be screened by the police officers while his cadres attempted to force their way inside the meeting without following procedure.
Mr Hichilema complained and accused police officers of harassing his cadres who had been stopped from proceeding into the high profiled ECZ meeting.
He told police officers who were manning the entrance and screening people that they did not think for asking him to be screened like any other leader who was attending the meeting.
But ECZ public relations manager Chrispin Akufuna immediately intervened by calming the furious Mr Hichilema.
Mr Akufuna explained that the commission did not invite cadres to attend the meeting but that only presidential candidates were invited as stipulated in the invitation letters.
Police officers, however, managed to stop cadres from entering the meeting which was also attended by President Edgar Lungu.
