THERE is nothing wrong for FDD leader Edith Nawakwi to work with President Edgar Lungu in an event that no presidential candidate amasses more than 50 percent winning threshold in the August 11, 2016 general elections, FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has said.
And Mr Mwanza has charged that the UPND have no confidence that they will win this year’s general elections, hence the panic to form an alliance with Ms Nawakwi.
Rubbishing online reports suggesting that Ms Nawakwi would endorse President Lungu during a possible re-run, Mr Mwanza said there was nothing wrong.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Mwanza wondered what was wrong for Ms Nawakwi to work with President Lungu during a possible second ballot.
“So what if Nawakwi and the FDD decide to work with President Lungu and the PF? Who has stopped them from working with the people they are working with?” Mr Mwanza said.
He said the FDD was not even thinking of a second ballot as the case was with the UPND which had allegedly decided sponsoring propaganda on online media suggesting that Ms Nawakwi would endorse President Lungu.
Mr Mwanza said in an event that the PF and UPND came first and second, they would both start courting the FDD.
“They want to make FDD deny President Lungu; we know that they have an agenda to make us deny Lungu,” he said.
Mr Mwanza said Ms Nawakwi’s vast experience was what had earned her an endorsement from people such as People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti.
“So if we want to work with President Lungu, so what because nobody has stopped them from working with whoever they are working with,” he said.
Mr Mwanza said UPND was a violent political party, hence its malicious propaganda to make FDD deny President Lungu.
