FAZ has launched the FIFA women’s interlocutory coaching course level 1 in Lusaka to impart skills needed to prepare and nurture prospective football players.

General Secretary Ponga Liwewe yesterday officially opened the programme in the company of FAZ technical director Honour Janza, education officer Davison Mtonga and Women’s Football officer Janet Bwalya at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.

Liwewe advised trainee coaches to take the course seriously as its importance was too huge to ignore.

He said their job would create a reservoir from which a new generation of football stars would be tapped, adding that the initiative would also create opportunities to shape the future of the children who will benefit from it.

He understood how huge the task that lay ahead was but expressed optimism that the 28 trainee coaches that turned up for the programme were equal to the task and would meet the challenging demand of the course and their future assignments.

Liwewe said the role of coaches was of paramount importance to Zambia as it was a source from which to tap the talent of future players.

“That is the importance of the training you are taking on now. Use what you learn do change the world for our young ones. It is a monumental task but one that I am sure you will conduct diligently. The knowledge that you acquire here will be passed on from one generation to the next and shape the lives of thousands of young girls and boys on and off the pitch,” said Liwewe

He noted that women football had made significant progress in the recent past as evidenced by Zambia’s maiden appearance at the last Women’s World Cup which was hosted in Canada proving that women had great potential to do better than men in football.

The residential training course, which started yesterday and attracted 28 participants, would run until 8th July and was being be conducted by Namibian FIFA instructor Jacqueline Shipanga and Zambia U-20 women’s national football team assistant coach Beauty Mwamba.
