YOUNG women entrepreneurs in Lusaka organised a one-day exhibition of products at Active Fitness in Lusaka on Saturday to create awareness of their activities and to promote their business to the general public.
A total of 25 stalls were installed in which the young women entrepreneurs including students showcased their products to the public.
Speaking at the occasion, organiser Victoria Sinkala said that one of the biggest constraints faced by Zambian women entrepreneurs was creation of a wider network and lack of advertising.
Ms Sinkala, owner of Rotivita Catering and Deco Services said that most women entrepreneurs ran small businesses mostly mobile. She said that the aim of the exhibition was to give women entrepreneurs in Lusaka a chance to market their businesses and showcase their products to different clients. “The idea behind this event is that everybody here has their own client base, so we decided to invite all our clients, friends and family to one venue. Each of us will be able showcase our products and services and that way we expand our market base,” said Ms Sinkala.
A spot check found different stands exhibiting a variety of products and services ranging from cosmetics, clothes, shoes, wines, food and beauty services including manicure, pedicure and design and tailoring.
Ms Sinkala said that advertising was one of the biggest challenges that women entrepreneurs faced, adding that most of their businesses were mobile type with some of them advertising their products on Facebook.
Ms Sinkala said that it was important that women were given equal business opportunities because of the economic impact created by their limited access to business prospects.
