…after thrashing Nkana 2-0
ZANACO yesterday opened a nine-point lead on the summit of the Super Division after beating Nkana 2-0 in a rescheduled Week seven match at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Goals from Aubrey Funga and Fashion Sakala in either half to push Zanaco to 40 points ending the first round of the 2016 season on a successful note.
The game kicked off on a high note with Nkana showing the eagerness on target. Nkana could have opened the scores in the 14th minute when Austin Muwowo failed to convert a sublime pass from Simon Bwalya.
FIFA referee Jenny Sikazwe issued the first yellow card of the match to Richard Kasonde after he hit Jacob Ngulube with his elbow.
Simon Bwalya again missed a clear chance to put Nkana ahead on the 31st minute after failing to tap in Muwowo’s cross from the right flunk.
Walter Bwalya’s chance to put the Kalampa boys ahead was wasted when he headed over the cross bar.
However, Zanaco then took possession of the game and casued havoc in Nkana’s defence which paid off with Funga heading home before half time from a Fackson Kapumbu cross.
The bankers returned more revitalised testing Nkana goalkeeper Scott Ngokene after ripping apart the Kitwe giants defence.
Their coordinated play paid off in the 65th minute when Sakala shot in the net from inside the box to give Zanaco a 2-0 lead.
Nkana’s effort to upset the results failed to yield fruits when Walter Bwalya’s shot from a bicycle kick saved by Zanaco goal keeper Toaster Nsabata.
Zanaco assistant coach Dibid Chilufya said he was impressed with the team’s performance meeting their target of ending the first round of the season on 40 points.
Coach Aggrey Chiyangi said he was not disappointed with the result and Nkana would go back to the drawing board.
