Miles Sampa ditched

By Nation Reporter

The United Democratic Front (UDF) in Central Province has been dissolved and all candidates who contested for various seats on the party ticket across the country should withdraw and support the Patriotic Front (PF), UDF Central Province spokesperson Robert Mtonga announced yesterday.

He said the decision was arrived at after a countrywide consultation of all structures on the future of the party.

Mr Mtonga who was flanked by UDF Central Province chairperson Adora Phiri and national youth chairperson Kingsley Chinyama said the move was because of lack of seriousness and coordination in the alliance of the UPND and UDF. “Today we announce the dissolution of the United Democratic Front, the party which was being headed by one Miles Bwalya Sampa and join officially and publicly the progressive Patriotic Front and there are a lot of reasons why we have taken this move.” Mr. Mtonga said.

He said the alliance between UDF and UPND was done without clear consultation from the structures across the country.

Mr Mtonga alleged that the alliance between the UDF and UPND was based on anger and frustration.

“If you check in some constituencies both the UPND and UDF have filed in candidates that shows lack of seriousness and coordination,” Mr. Mtonga said.

But when contacted for a comment UDF national trustee Rachael Chileshe said individuals denouncing the party were not its members and that they do not have the mandate to comment on matters relating to the party.

“They were not there when we were forming UDF. There is no way  they can comment on things they don’t know and where were they when Government was harassing Miles Sampa left, right and centre if they can call themselves provincial whatever. Those do not even belong to UDF, they are PF members so they should not be misleading people”

“As UDF, we are supporting HH (Hakainde Hichilema), Miles Sampa is not standing so there is nothing like that,” she said.

Ms. Chileshe said the UDF remained intact and supportive of the alliance with the UPND contrary to claims by individuals allegedly being used by the PF.

She said the same individuals were not even seen anywhere at the time when Mr Sampa was suffering to ensure that the party was where it was today.
