HH promises to revamp agriculture

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has promised the people of Mukonchi farm block that he will reduce the price of fertiliser and increase the farmer support pack in a bid to improve agriculture in the country.

Addressing a rally at Mukonchi school grounds on Sunday, Mr. Hichilema accused the PF leadership of neglecting farmers because the Government does not understand agriculture.

” I am a farmer and fully do understand agriculture unlike our friends in the PF. So when you vote for me on 11th August, I will give you four bags basal dressing and four bags top dressing fertiliser so that the cost of farming can be lower and in turn reduce the price of mealie meal in the country,” he said.

Mr. Hichilema also outlined his plan of exporting processed agricultural products as opposed to exporting maize.

He said there was ready market in the neighbouring countries where PF was selling maize.

“PF is exporting maize to Zimbabwe but with us we are going to process the maize into mealie meal right here to create employment. We will also produce stock feed which we can sell to ready markets like Botswana,” he said.

He also castigated the PF for alleged financial abuse through high cost of infrastructure .

On education, he reiterated his party’s commitment to provide free education saying the cost of funding the education sector would be met from the reduced cost of running a bloated government and unnecessary foreign trips.

“We will make a great saving after we eradicate corruption and even reduce on flying out of the country unnecessarily because most of the international work will be done by our foreign missions. That saving will in turn be channeled to the education sector so that every child can have free education from primary to tertiary,” he explained.

On his campaign to Mukonchi, he was accompanied by former Mpongwe MP Gabriel Namulambe, UPND Central Province chairman Albert Chifita and a few other provincial officials.
