LILANDA market is intact and no political party has taken over the market, market spokesperson Daniel Sakala has said.
He said the UPND cadres have not taken over Lilanda market.
Traders at Lilanda Market in Matero constituency who are PF supporters were reported to have been harassed and their posters removed by the market executive officials who were UPND cadres.
But Mr. Sakala said the market was peaceful and that there was no harassment of PF members.
He said the market’s executive had always promoted peace among traders and was committed to working with the government of the day.
“I am speaking as spokesperson for the institution and truthfully speaking, Lilanda market has not been taken over by any cadre of any political party. We want to assure the nation that Lilanda market is not for UPND and that the market is a cooperative market that works with the government of the day.
“No PF posters have been removed. All the posters, including for other political parties, are intact. On Friday, we even received a candidate for the PF who wants to come in as a mayor, we welcomed them as the executive of Lilanda market,” Mr. Sakala said.
He said those issuing false statements about the market’s executive, were just trying to tarnish its name.
Mr. Sakala observed that Zambia was a democratic country and that everyone was free to belong to a political party of their choice.
“We know we are leaders and not cadres. We will lead according to what we are supposed to and work with the government of the day. We have no time to start removing posters. No posters have been tampered with,” he said.
