THE quest for human blood by the UPND is very alarming and something must be done quickly to bring back order, Former Namwala Member of Parliament Robbie Chizhyuka has said.
Major Chizhyuka was reacting to the alleged beating and maiming of Namwala Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Parliamentary candidate Charity Kabongomana by UPND cadres.
UPND cadres in Namwala on Friday allegedly assaulted Ms. Kabongomana resulting in her sustaining a broken arm.
Mr. Chizhyuka described the violence as inhuman, urging the police to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
“The police should move in to arrest the UPND until they appear in court. The courts of law should give maximum penalty so that this incident should serve as a deterrent example to other blood thirsty UPND boxers,” Major. Chizhyuka said.
He called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) advocating increased representation of women at highest decision making organs of state to come out and condemn the violence.
Mr. Chizhyuka also suggested that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should suspend campaigns in Namwala following the attacks on Ms. Kabongomana.
“The ECZ should walk their talk and suspend campaigns in Namwala with immediate effect. There is no way that Charity Kabongomana could campaign with a broken leg and arm in a hospital bed while the cadres run scot free,” he said.
And Major Chizhyuka condemned the escalating levels of violence allegedly perpetuated by the UPND.
“As former MP for Namwala and founder member of the Anderson Mazoka led UPND in Namwala, I am alarmed at the level of contamination, filthy and quest for human blood by the Hichilema led UPND, something must be done,” he said.
