EDITH Nawakwi has branded Hakainde Hichilema a thug and blood-thirsty politician who should never be allowed to win the August 11th general election because the country risked being thrown into the abyss of economic, social and political decay.
And Ms Nawakwi, who is FDD presidential candidate, said Mr Hichilema was exhibiting the worst forms of hypocrisy by branding the Patriotic Front (PF) as a violent political organisation when half of the thugs in the UPND were from the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Ms Nawakwi claimed that President Edgar Lungu could be planning to suspend the general elections because the Head of State had discovered that the PF had lost popularity on the ground.
Addressing journalists at Protea Hotel in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Nawakwi predicted that Mr Hichilema, who is the UPND presidential candidate, would have his political career end in what she termed absolute doom because according to her, the opposition leader had surrounded himself with wrong advisors.
She said the UPND and the PF were the main culprits in political violence and demanded that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) must immediately take remedial measures by disqualifying the two political parties.
Ms Nawakwi said Mr Hichilema’s political future was doomed because the UPND had embraced known political thugs who were currently in court for violence.
She said the UPND had settled for a presidential running mate whose character was that of violence.
“Satan in his whole is residing in two political parties, the PF and the UPND. The events of the past few weeks should no longer be dressed or coated in sexy phrase such as political violence. The UPND is a bloody-thirsty political party that is using thuggery and murderous behaviour to win the elections. The UPND led by Moono Lubezhi yesterday attacked our Namwala parliamentary candidate, Charity Kabongomana with the intention to kill her. They beat her badly and broke her arm and she is currently in hospital. With the blood of our member, Mr Hichilema should kiss good bye to ever seeing the doors of State House,” Ms Nawakwi said.
And Ms Nawakwi said the UPND should not condemn the PF as a violent political party because half of the perpetrators of violence in the opposition party were defectors from the ruling party.
She wondered why President Lungu was not firm enough to deal with violent cadres from both the UPND and the PF and demanded that the ECZ should immediately disqualify Ms Lubezhi from participating in the elections.
She said the Zambia police should arrest Ms Lubezhi and charge her for attempted murder and that the ECZ should stop pretending that it did not know the perpetrators of violence because those involved were known.
She said the three Church mother bodies, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) and the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) had been asking the UPND and the PF to lay down their arms but the two political parties had continued causing terror in communities.
