THE Post Newspaper tax deliquence should not be politicised by Hakainde Hichilema who is craving to win favour from the newspaper, Chishimba Kambwili has charged.
Mr Kambwili said the Post Newspaper’s deliberate failure to honour its tax obligations for many years was being politicised by Mr Hichilema for political expediency
Mr Kambwili, the Patriotic Front (PF) Roan constituency parliamentary candidate, has advised Mr Hichilema to concentrate on his campaigns rather than being reduced to a spokesperson of a newspaper that owed Government millions of Kwacha.
Mr Kambwili said he wondered why Mr Hichilema was trying to create an impression that he cared more about the Post Newspaper when it was the same media house that branded the UPND a bantustan political organisation.
“That is just a very unfounded statement, and I think we deserve an apology as Government. If we were to close the Post, I could have personally closed the Post a long time ago because the Post has breached all the provisions of a good media house,” said Dr. Kambwili.
Dr. Kambwili said the Post had caused a lot of problems to the Zambian economy by issuing alarming statements that had the potential to investor confidence in Zambia.
Reacting to a story alleging that the PF was planning to close down the Post Newspaper through the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) before the August 11th, 2016, elections, Dr. Kambwili, who is also Chief Government spokesperson, charged that the Post did not keep friendships and that the Post only used people in order to advance their selfish egos.
“Look at today’s Post for instance, from page one to the last page, everything is negative about PF; have you ever seen a newspaper that reports like that?” Dr. Kambwili asked.
“All those who are associated with the Post are political failures who think they can ride on the lies of the Post Newspaper to get to State House,” he said.
