C/belt PF cautions Zambians

By Nation Reporter

SOME opposition leaders aspiring to form government in the August 11 elections are just businessmen who will plunge the country into serious hunger because they will be using their position to smuggle mealie-meal into foreign countries, Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt vice-media chairperson Thabo Kawana has said.

Mr Kawana said some of the opposition leaders who were aspiring to form government have no interest of serving the people, but were only interested to form government and use their positions to boost their businesses.

Speaking in an interview in Kitwe yesterday after a special programme on Radio Icengelo, Mr Kawana claimed some oppositions leaders have been on record as having said they were in politics to enrich themselves.

“So if a person has said that he or she is in politics to enrich himself, do you expect that person to serve the interest of the electorate? Obviously, he will not serve the interest of the electorate, but his own interests.

“So Zambians have to be careful with some of these opposition leaders because some of them were once ministers and have a record of smuggling mealie-meal into foreign countries. So if they were to form government, they would abuse their positions to enhance their businesses,’’ Mr Kawana said.

And speaking earlier on the special programme, Mr Kawana said there was no need for Zambians to vote for UPND or any other opposition party because the PF government was already doing what the opposition were planning to come and do if elected into government.

He said the PF government had set the stage for economic recovery through job creation, infrastructure development and had invested in electricity generation to ensure that load shedding was addressed.
