HAKAINDE Hichilema has vowed that the UPND would start retaliating against the Patriotic Front (PF) for allegedly perpetuating violence if the ruling party is not going to tame its cadres.
In a statement yesterday Mr Hichilema said that the party had exercised maximum restraint from the PF in the past but that they would not entertain such attacks anymore after PF cadres in Shiwangándu on (Monday) attempted to bring down his helicopter by throwing stones as well as other objects to the aeroplane when he had gone to canverse for votes.
He accused President Lungu for not taking action to quell acts of violence and that if the situation was left unchecked the country would be on fire.
“We would like to warn President Lungu Edgar Lungu that if he does not tame his cadres over these barbaric acts, we will be left with no choice but to defend ourselves.
We have been exercising maximum restraint from the PF attacks but we will not entertain such anymore, especially after what we have witnessed here in Shiwangándu.
President Lungu must realise that this violence taking place in our country if no action is taken by him as sitting President our country will be on fire, “he said.
Mr Hichilema has urged his members to remain strong and not to involve themselves in violent activities.
He said that the focus of the UPND would be to develop the nation, fix the economy and not hacking citizens with divergent views like the PF were allegedly doing.
Mr Hichilema has called for peace and unity even in political campaigns, before, during and after the August 11 elections.
