THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Livingstone district has written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) conflict management committee to resolve the impasse of independent candidates, who are using the PF campaign materials and symbols.
Former PF Livingstone central Member of Parliament Lawrence Evans confirmed this in Livingstone yesterday.
He said that his office has written to the committee after the party observed that some independent candidates were using the party’s materials and symbol, a situation he described as misleading the voters.
“We have written to the district conflict management committee and very soon they will call for a meeting over this issue. Those using PF campaign regalia risk being disqualified by ECZ.
“There are people that are masquerading that they are supporting President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, hence using the PF regalia and symbol. They should not be entertained and I want to warn them that they risk their nominations being nullified,” Mr Evans said.
He described as desperate independent candidates who wanted to ride on the popularity of President Lungu.
“I wonder why these desperate people have so much confidence that they can scoop the parliamentary seat when they were once adopted as candidates for a ward but they failed to win the elections,” he said.
He wondered how people who had failed to win a ward election in the constituency could manage to win a parliamentary seat.
Two independent candidates, who were not adopted by the PF central committee as parliamentary candidate opted to contest as independent candidates. The two are Edwin Munyaule and Jorum Mwinde.
And during the nominations day, Mr Simwimba’s supporters were seen clad in PF regalia and signing PF symbol.
