THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has put off an international friendly match between Zambia and Namibia which was scheduled to be played at Nkoloma Stadium.
Association general secretary Ponga Liwewe confirmed to Daily Nation Sports that Namibia had decided to put off the match because the organisers of the 2016 Castle Cosafa Cup had requested the team to be present during the official opening which would start on Sunday.
“We have not cancelled but it is Namibia who has decided to pull out because of the Cosafa Cup tournament which they are hosting,” Ponga said.
According to a posting on FAZ official page, the association justified the cancellation of match at the request of the Government of the Republic of Namibia due to the 2016 Castle Cosafa Cup competition to be hosted by Namibia from June 11.
“Please be advised that the international friendly match between Zambia and Namibia which was scheduled to be played at Nkoloma Stadium will not take place on Sunday, June 12, as earlier announced,” read part of the posting.
The association, however, apologised for any inconvenience that could have been caused, adding that it was regrettable.
