THE Ministry of Agriculture has welcomed an Italian economic delegation to Lusaka, with the main aim of promoting partnerships between the Venetian and Zambian companies.

The delegation of 10 companies from Veneto (one of 20 regions in Italy), was made possible with the support of the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) and the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), among others.

During a presentation at his residence recently, Italian Ambassador, Filipo Scammaca,  said: “This is the first time since I’ve been in Zambia that we have had an Italian delegation.”

He was pleased with the development, as Zambia still had room to grow its capacity in the agricultural industry.

Mr. Scammaca said the trade mission was a most welcome development as he hoped to see companies take concrete action after their talks.

The regional representatives of the Veneto government and the Italian entrepreneurs covered sectors of agriculture, agro-processing machinery and construction.

Veneto Promozione (Africa) representative, Orsetta Palidini, said that they wanted to create a mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas between the two countries.

“We decided to come to Zambia because it is a very important hub of agriculture.”

Ms. Palidini expressed gratitude for the support of the Italian embassy in Lusaka, the Zambian embassy in Rome as well as the ZDA, ZNFU and COMESA Business Council.

Some of the companies involved in the mission include Mulmix Spa, a market leader specializing in the production and sales of storage plants, silos and seed selection, and FDE Solar, a manufacturer of solar plants and equipment.
