Zesco face Al Ahly in tough CAF draw

By Sports Reporter

ZAMBIAN league champions Zesco United face a tough battle in their quest for the 2016 CAF Champions League title against North African teams following yesterday’s CAF draw.

Zesco were yesterday drawn in Group A against Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast.

The George Lwandamina-coached side will renew rivalry against the eight-time champions Al Ahly whom they have never beaten.

In 2011, Zesco lost 1-0 in the first leg against Al Ahly and drew 1-1 in the return leg.

Lwandamina, when contacted for a comment on the draw, said he was not in a position to discuss issues at club level when he was at the time with the national team.

“I cannot comment over the draws because I am with the national team right now. I am not in a position to discuss club-related issues,” he said.

The Zambian champions put up an outstanding performance during the qualification stages and now will have to prove their mettle against the Arabs.

Zesco is next month expected to host Al Ahly in their opening match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
