We’re not dictators

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has stated that the association did not impose the newly-appointed national team assistant coaches Elijah Chikwanda and Aggrey Chiyangi on George Lwandamina.

Committee member Blackwell Siwale revealed to faz.football.com that the appointment was done in conjunction with Lwandamina as head coach.

“The executive committee does not impose assistant coaches on the national team coach. If I may take you back, since the death of Fighton (Simukonda), Mr. Lwandamina has not been operating with a full strength technical bench,” Siwale said.

He said the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau was a crucial game and therefore the need to strengthen the bench.

FAZ last week announced that Nkwazi Football Club coach Chikwanda and Nkana tutor Chiyangi will assist Lwandamina on the Chipolopolo bench.

He said the association was confident that the Chipolopolo Boys were prepared for the task ahead.

“As FAZ we have done our part to ensure the task is achieved. We have done our part in ensuring that the players are fully motivated. We do not promise players anything the day before the match. We always want to do that in advance and we believe that we have done that,” he said.

Meanwhile, the national team yesterday left for Togo aboard South African flight Air Link ahead of their friendly match this Friday before taking on Gambia on Monday in another friendly.

The team consisting of local players left at 18:45 hours and will connect from Johannesburg to Lome.

The team is expected to camp in West Africa till the AfCON qualifier against Guniea Bissau next weekend.

Professional players – Chisamba Lungu, Stophilla Sunzu, Collins Mbesuma, Lubambo Musonda and Evans Kangwa – will link up with the squad later.
