Lungu cautions ministers against abuse of resources

By Nation Reporter

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has warned Cabinet Ministers not to abuse public resources when carrying out political campaigns as the Patriotic Front (PF) is a big party with its own adequate resources.

He said this yesterday at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium where he announced that the PF would mobilise its own resources without relying on Government coffers.

He said even when the party was in opposition and was disadvantaged in many ways, it still emerged victorious in the 2011 general elections.

Mr Lungu said that he would not protect any minister found abusing public resources but would allow the due process of the law to take its course.

“At this point I want to warn all our candidates not to abuse public resources especially Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers. I promised the Zambian people that we would not run a corrupt campaign but a free and fair campaign,

“We are a big party, and can mobilise resources required without relying on the State. I expect peace in these elections,” he said.

He said that he was ‘number one cadre’ and urged all PF members; supporters as well as sympathisers to go out and campaign around Zambia so that the ruling party was voted into power by a landslide victory.

He advised party members to avoid the opposition as they seemed to be in a competition to spew hate speech.
