THE Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) has given the Zambian National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) officials 48 hours in which to step down from their positions or the party will petition State House to have them forcefully removed from their offices.
This follows the clearance of EMM Corporate Partners, the firm that carried an audit that exposed glaring misappropriation of funds by senior ZNFU officials amounting to over K34 million, was cleared by the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountancy (ZICA) of any professional misconduct.
And the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said investigations into the ZNFU have reached an advanced stage and Zambians will be availed with the results as soon as the exercise was over.
ZRP president Wright Musoma yesterday told the Daily Nation that it was wrong for senior ZNFU officials linked to the plunder to continue occupying their offices especially now that their allegations that EMM could have erred in its execution of duty because the company did not understand how ZNFU operated have been cleared by ZICA. Mr. Musoma said ZNFU officials should vacate their offices immediately as they awaited clearance from DEC over their alleged underhand methods to syphon public funds in collusion with senior accountants.
“The only moral thing to do is to step aside and allow smooth investigations to be conducted and concluded. Why are they clinging to their positions? Do they want to jeopardise investigations? ZNFU is not a private company where owners can abuse resources anyhow. That is a public office and as such, ZRP has given those senior officials 48 hours to step down or we will petition State House to have them removed.
And DEC said investigations in the ZNFU plunder case were almost concluded and that as soon as the officers handling the matter were done with their investigations, the findings would be availed to the public.
